This is a great, easy-to-follow book with plenty of examples concerning the various grammar rules. I especially like "ticklers" (exercises) at the end of each topic. I bought this for my 16 year-old who struggles to remember the grammar rules and needed help improving his sentence structures when writing essays in school.
This book was recommended to my daughter by her freshman english professor at college, and we have ALL actually loved reading it! Makes grammar easily understood and is a fun read, too!
Our 7th grader, who just started her fist year of middle school, likes this series. The scaredy cat is on the cover of every book in the series I think. Anyway our sometimes darling 7th grader has trouble remember grammer rules, she is not a detailed person, but she is in GATE English classes. Anyway she started using this book right away as she was working on her first narrative essay of the year. There is also a book in the series for science fair projects that she checked out of the library last year in 6th grade, which she liked. She is a cat person, so the illustrations are great for her. I think you could buy this for 6th graders or even 5th graders, but I don't know if the kids are mature enough at that age to want to use it on their own yet so you may have to practice with them. I feel like she is at the right age for this book since she seems to care more about her grades now that she is in middle school, so it seems like it will be a good reference book for her this year.
