I don't know why I was so intrigued and interested in this book, but I read it all in one sitting unable to stop except for periods of reflection. The story of a young girl not have resonated so much with an old man, but it did. Well worth the time to read.
This captivating story embraces the naivety of growing up in small town America. At a time when children could go out and play while everyone trusted they would be okay, there were surprising things that happened that were very difficult to deal with. This story is beautifully written. It is a story of coming-of-age in spite of incredible obstacles. It is a story of healing, understanding, and perseverance. I highly recommend it and look forward to more stories by Laura Mason Lockard.
This book was so interesting to me! You can immediately discern that the new writer is very intelligent by her writing and I was so impressed with the strength and resolve that the main character showed in the face of some very sad and difficult situations. The story kept me turning the pages to see if or how she could turn her life around. The author is very honest in her portrayal of not only the hardships of being a teenager but the hardships of the parent/child relationship, the beauty of lifetime loyal friends, persevering against the odds and even getting love and support from those that have left us. Personally, I also really enjoyed the vivid descriptions of all the places around the area she grew up. Could picture it all from the shopping centers to the Aunts Farmhouse to the tree house. Such interesting concepts.

I’m happy that I got “See the Light†and I would recommend it to anyone because you won’t want to leave the story. I loved the writing style. The pace of the book is perfect, the character development is great, and it carries your imagination to nostalgic places with vivid detail, but not overly done. From a story line, there are parts that are a bit intense and again the writing style is exceptional for these. Growing up is difficult in itself and this book takes you on a journey where you’re invited to realize and understand those trials. But it also includes an unimaginable event in an era where things weren’t really dealt with the best way. With that in mind, it certainly is a worthwhile read also.
