Some entries have time spans that are impossibly large between when the criminal was born, when they committed their crimes and when they were brought to justice. Other entries are simply incorrect in details. One example is the entry for Karla Homolka, a participant in one of the most heinous and sensationalised criminal cases in Canadian history that this book says committed her crimes in France!The only good thing I can say about this book is that it was free. That is, however, small comfort for a book filled with such frequent and inexcusable technical and factual faults.

I love this book. I first came across it when I was in training to be a physical and medicine rehab doc. It explains the structure and function of human neuro anatomy in an easy to read and understand format. I used my 1990’s edition to review hearing structure and function for a talk I gave to first year medical students. I suddenly realized that I needed an updated version. I use it at my office to quickly review neuro anatomy because it is that easy to use.

If you want to learn neuroanatomy i suggest using a lippincott or another book for the theoretical and this book for it's clinical correlates. Would've rated it lower if not for the clinical correlate sections at the end of every chapter.

I have purchased three copies of this text for myself andseveral of my team members. This is a fabulous textand is well worth the price. Thank you/srp

a bit on the dense side for me....

I am not a bioscience or medical type, so this text is rather out of my field. However, with that said, I have an interest in nervous system functioning and have found _Functional Neuroanatomy_ a very useful reference. It is slightly poorer as a textbook as it suffers from insufficient internal cross referencing (some exists, and a physiology book would no doubt have more). The index is reasonably complete in this regard, but relying on it can be awkward, particularly when it comes to looking up structures which have different names in different texts.

Theres no way to learn everything about the Central Nervous System in an easier way than with this book.Its even got a separate Clinical section for every chapter!! I really enjoyed reading this book, along with Adam's Neurology(another great one).The only con is that its got a couple of mistakes(maybe not serious) for example when you get to the part describing the Direct and Indirect Talamus-Striatal Pathways and a couple more.

These are great books! As a homeschooling parent it is difficult to find secular history books and these fit the bill! They do have some christian undertones in some parts but nothing like the christian history curriculum. My kids love these and love that it is written like a story instead of a dry history book. I highly recommend these to everyone whether you homeschool or not.

I can't wait to crack this book open! The first book is awesome, with tons of interesting information.A recent chapter from Book One taught my 9-year-old and I that the word Missouri (as in the river and the state we live in) means "men in big canoes" and that Sierra Nevada means "mountain range"These books are chock-full​ of fun facts, fascinating pictures, and engaging history. Perfect for this homeschooling family!

I love the writing in this series, it's such a pleasure to read, I wonder why are so many other textbooks so boring?I'd love to give it five stars, except that there are recurring themes I find grating - some of her "fan club for the US government" stuff is just in totally inappropriate places. For instance, "American slavery was a horror. We should never pretend it was anything else. But the American system of government lets us correct mistakes. When you study history you see we usually do. Of that we can be proud." Gag me with a spoon, slavery was not abolished until more than 240 years after the first slave was delivered in 1619! Hakim does such a great job of fairly telling the story, why ruin it?Another place I found disappointing was the perpetuation of the myth that the first settlers at Plymouth were called "Pilgrims" and that the Europeans started Thanksgiving. She has a box on Thanksgiving saying the story of the first Thanksgiving is a "real turkey", lists some other European Thanksgiving celebrations, and then neglects to mention that the Indians had been conducting Thanksgiving celebrations at harvest time for generations. I'd love to see someone do such a great job TELLING the story, who could also not perpetuate those irritating little false stories that schoolchildren are always taught.Gosh, this doesn't sound like the positive review I inteded, but I see others have already told the good stuff. It's wonderfully well written!

I was very disappointed that all the pictures, captions and side notes in the original book were not included in the Kindle version. There should be some notification so that the purchaser is aware prior to purchase. I feel that my child is missing vital information by not having these included.

I can't say enough great things about this series. If you want ACCURATE history (not the whole "Columbus was the first to discover America" nonsense) that is a fun and intelligent read and will make your children love and understand history, buy this series.

My daughter found this more interesting than other history text books. She didn't love it, but she did like it. She liked the pictures that went with the text and the pronunciation guides for the names. We basically have used this as a jumping off point for more in depth studies using other materials.

Joy Hakim's books are some of the finest history books I have ever read. The format is easy to read. There are lots of graphics and the attention to detail is superb. I have learned so much history on top of the slim layer that is taught in school and college. Excellent investment! Highly recommend!

What a wonderful story of the varied ways that the American Colonies were made. Ms. Hakim has a lovely way of weaving the stories together and giving a very fresh view of the making of America. I recommend this for anyone interested in a new way to learn about the US.

None of these questions are appropriate for this book. This is not a story or work of fiction! I remember Civil Defense drills from my childhood. There is still good information that can be used in natural disasters.

The info is not so good as I supposed when I got the thing in 1972. There were several of them in coach's office. Now I know why he rolled his eyes when I asked for one. That said, overall preparedness and common sense advice is always in order. It is a primer of basic useful info. It is a starting point, or something you give 8th graders to read in health class. It focuses mainly on a limited nuclear exchange, so is once again germane with two national leaders bragging about the power of their nukes.Most useful info. Water purification instructions. Emergency toilet instructions are OK, but man-- get some kitty litter. When the time comes, you'll know what to do.Caveat lector. Apply some common sense and basic knowledge. The book recommends half rations of food. Your calorie needs are going up not down if the power and air conditioning are off. Better too much than not enough. The book recommends a quart per day per person of water. OMG no. Once again, with the power off and the AC not turning, you will need at least a gallon per day per person. And a two week supply is hopelessly optimistic. Lay in enough food and water and medicine for at least one month.Of particular interest to me was building a fallout shelter. Again, let common sense guide you as well.
