Although for young students, I found this book informative and interesting, as well. I'm a great-grandmother and have a rich immigrant heritage from Irish, Scottish, French and English ancestors, combined with Native American. I bought this book to read and share with my young great-grandchildren. Perusing it, I found that I enjoyed it, as well.
A quick brief description of the Island. Gives one an idea how many different nationalities came over and which one was the most.
I bought it as a resource for a lesson i do on this topic. The class really enjoyed the format of the book. The pictures and interesting facts really got their attention, and mine!
Prefect for students learning about immigration and Ellis Island.
I would recommend this book to elementary teachers and 3rd - 5th grade students. It's hard to find appropriate reading levels for the topic of immigration and this book really fits. Great photo's, captions, diagrams, text, etc. Great for teaching about nonfiction text features as well.
