Chew on This is an informational guide on the intricate workings of the fast food industry. Workings doesn’t just allude to the good though, it mainly talks about the bad side of the two faced corporations that have a bigger part in your life than you may think. This book accurately displays what we as consumers are faced with everyday: a choice. A choice to either support these monopolies, or to support small business and a sustainable future. This book is mainly cut into the past events that have led to today, the development of child advertising and exploitation, and the horrors of the meat packing and pork industries. Overall this book seems to be very factual and it was a quick read. At points it got a bit repetitive, but I guess that is necessary when you are trying to get your point across of not supporting these agglomerations of corporate greed. It is very surprising some of the details that come from this book. I think most parents and really anyone that reads this will be very touched by some of the stories about the youth of today and how they have negatively been affected by McDonald’s and its counterparts. It is conniving and deceitful of how these children are treated by these companies and on top of that we only get one side about America. Imagine the countless other third world countries that have wages close to nothing that have kids working for a better part of the day to help support their families. This book is just another account of some of the cruelties that need to be changed in the future. We can’t keep supporting the businesses that exploit the future leaders of our world.

We have passed on this myth to other countries, too.Any place we sell this stuff, the people are negatively impacted.I haven't eaten in a fast food place or drank soda in years. It always made me feel sick afterward. Now I know why.

Required reading for school, but my daughter ended up sharing it with the family. She actually read the entire book. We (grown ups) watched the film- and I advise anyone to pre-view the film (posted on the book), it is NOT family viewing. Right old shock, that was... We were definitely not expecting that the film is well different than this book. However, this book IS for young readers, and it is informative and easy to read. My daughter learned a lot about processed food, and it was nice that she no longer needs to wonder why we do not let her eat the rubbish and highly processed "food" here. Brought her around to the side of eating well and why it matters.

Kids are actually pretty logical and smart about their own health if given guidance and information. We are improving habits as a family and looking for concrete ways to explain to our son why we won’t let him eat a standard American diet of junk.

Schlosser details the beyond-wretched conditions in slaughterhouses. Those chapters are VERY difficult to read. What would ever cause people to give up their addictions to fast food? Reading this book might make us all - at least consider toning down the urge to eat a McRib or McShake. Significant book for sure...

I've been hiking in the Carolinas for thirty years. This is an excellent guide to the geology of the region. It starts with a brief account of the geologic history of the region. This is followed by field trips. Included are all of the best places to hike or drive Mount Mitchell, Crowders MOuntain, STone Mountain, the Outer Banks, Caesars Head, Charleston and many others. For each trip, the authors point out the distinctive features. For example, look for gneiss at Table Rock in SC. This metamorphic rock formed in the ancient collision of two superintendents. The best thing about this book is that you can go and see a million years of history in the land itself. The authors tell you what rocks and formations to look for and how to interpret them. Great for hikers and all who love this region.

I ordered this book for a North Carolina brother, after enjoying the California geology series. This is NOT the same publisher or author. The California books - a northern/southern pair - are colorful, enticing, and very informative. This one is just boring, with mostly black & white pics. I guess I've gotten spoiled by better books.

If you live in the Carolinas and want to get your head around some of the wonderful gifts nature has for us, this book is a must read. I've used it to plan day-trips to see some of the places written up and have never been disappointed. The first five chapters set the important scenes and tell of the early events that shaped our landscapes. The last 31 chapters outline field trips. Each tells us what to look for, but most importantly, what it means. So use the first 5 chapters to understand the formative processes, but use the rest of the book to plan and organize your visits to various places across the two states.

I refer to this book a lot. Great for day field trips. Perfect bedstand reading before sleep. Lots of photos. I would love to have color photos but, the text is very good.

A wonderful addition to the smart, learning traveler's packing list! I have used it as I travel both N and S Carolina and neverfail to be delighted. Well written with photos and diagrams - Great for the rock curious and the rock crazed!

Covers alot of great fieldtrips for geology. Its great for weekend trips with the kids, instead of some ole amusement park.

The information in this book was so informative and the history was fabulous. Packed with such neat facts that you would not normally obtain during a casual visit to these spectacular places in NC/SC.
