This book is full of useful tips and resources that any traveler might want to know, especially is you are a woman traveling alone. For some reason, common-sense tips are things we need to be reminded of. Like always registering at a hotel under your last name and initial, thus avoiding advertising the fact you are a woman. Like taking the hotel card when you register, so that if you get lost you can get someone to help you find it. Like covering guidebooks with covers made out of local newspapers, making it less obvious you are just passing through.This book is a veritable gold mine of valuable advice, the sort that you could write on a 3 by 5 and keep with you when traveling. The best recommendation I can make is that my copy is bristling with stickies. Five stars.

Good book, delivers lots of safety tips without creating fear.

As an experienced traveler, I found that most of the book contains common sense or "old tricks" that I learned via tips passed on from other travelers. Even so, I did learn a few things and believe that any woman who is relatively new to travel, especially worldwide, will benefit from this comprehensive book.

This book was informative and full of fun anecdotes, but I didn't find it very useful. Most of the information contained was rather common-sense for a savvy traveler, or someone who spends a lot of time in cities.Think smart, protect your belongings, don't go out in dangerous areas at night, and always feel secure with your surroundings.

I received this book on time, and I am still enjoying reading it. It's almost the same as the other book I ordered. They give the same advice for women traveling alone. But, I enjoy the reading of both of them.

I haven't even finished the book yet, but I'm halfway through and got it only a day ago, this book is great and loaded with logical tips and facts every woman should read before taking off on a journey, being a novice or well-experienced traveler.

I enjoyed reading Knitting Stitches: Learn How to Knit Stitches. The book opens with an introduction and fun facts about knitting which, I always find interesting. As a new knitter pictures are extremely important so, I can see what yarn, needles and, stitches I will be using. Throughout the book there are pictures associated with everything and I love the clear visuals. Knitting Stitches also gives you a chart to determine the needle size and yarn weight. Then the book moves on and explains in detail which needles to choose for when you are a beginner and, there are videos to watch on needle size. It can get confusing to walk into A.C. Moore or Michael's and try to figure out which needle is right for me but, now I don’t have to guess. Each page is easy to read and brings you through how to measure a gauge, read a pattern, hold your needles and, step by step instructions for each stitch. There are also videos provided throughout so if you are a visual person like me you can watch how to hold your needles or, how to make the stitch. The little dictionary provided of what the knitting abbreviations mean was so helpful; when I was going through the book all I had to do was reference it. It is exciting that the book shows how to make fun things like a bag or, an advanced item like, a snowy owl. I recommend Knitting Stitches: Learn How to Knit Stitches if you are a new knitter who enjoys having tons of visuals and learns from step by step instructions.

Knitting Stitches is much more than showing knitting stitches. This book gives you the beginner knowledge and beyond. I crochet but was looking for knitting stitches to learn as I have received knitting needles for a Secret Santa gift. I am learning these stitches pretty well so far, but it's only been a few days. The author gives you all you need to know in the beginnings of the book, everything from what type of needle to buy or what is best for who. Along with yarn choosing, the book gave needle sizes, conversions, links to videos, anything I needed to get started and keep from getting disappointed.The pictures in Knitting Stitches is good for people who need a visual to get work done for knitting. The book reads well, as there were no editing or grammatical errors (thank goodness) that we sometimes see with "hobby" books.All in all, I will keep this on my device for my Kindle and nearby when I am knitting. Thank you Emma Brown. I need all the help I can get!

This book is written by a British knitter. Even though Europe uses the metric system, UK continues to use imperial system past the time they were supposed to stop using it, so the measurements are given in inches which makes this book work for American knitters. The needle sizes are given in a table which includes a column for US sizes. The history portion is about UK knitters but that's okay.The author combines text with illustrations from YouTube videos by various knitters around the world. I thought it was a very effective way to present information. It is highly unlikely that I would have found all these great videos on my own.The book has lots of diagrams, photos, and clear instructions. One of the most favourite memories of my childhood is when my mother and I were knitting, or at least were trying to do some knitting stitches. My mother had a full time job and she could never find time to master her knitting skills. As a working girl myself I don't have time to join a knitting workshop, so I try learn by reading books and watching videos. I bought this book a few days ago and it turned to be the best Christmas gift I could give myself!From all the knitting books and magazines I've ever bought, this is simply the best for a beginner like I am. It's not only that this book features the knitting basics with step-by-step instructions, it's the way that it does it. Every chapter includes multiple close range photos to help you understand the instructions. And if you are of those who prefer watching than reading, there are links to respective videos!This book starts with the basics about yarns and needles (even how to hold your needles), and continues with detailed instructions of how to cast on and bind off. It teaches you how to knit different types of stitches (I'd never heard of some of them, the Roman stitches for example, all so easy to do) and it goes on with fancy techniques like lace, dragon fly and peacock stitches along with patterns, like the geometric and rounded ones. But what I found the most useful was the chapter that deciphers the abbreviations for knitting patterns, you know the ones knitting magazines are full of.Reading through this book I had the feeling the author was by my side teaching me personally how to knit stitches and that's why I loved it so much.

Last winter, I tried to knit my mother a scarf for Christmas, and failed miserably. After reading several on-line guides that didn’t help, I decided to give up and bought her a gift card instead. Recently, I came across this book and decided to give knitting another try.I liked this book a lot more than the on-line guides because it gives very detailed explanations of various knitting stitches. In addition, this book has some great pictures and easy to follow knitting patterns. Hopefully, I will be able to finally knit a scarf for my mom this year with all the information provided in this guide.

I purchased this book because I want to learn how to knit things for friends and family for birthday and Christmas gifts. I found this to be a powerful resource and incredibly helpful for a beginner like me. The tips and techniques were clear and concise with pictures that gave me a good visual to go off of making it easy to follow. I'm impressed with how it covered the basics and fundamentals in detail really helping me establish a great start to my new found hobby. I would highly recommend this guide to anyone who want to get a great start to this fun and creative craft.
