Pre-ordered this book, and have been delighted with it so far! My only quibbles are a bit of loose binding and a lack of maps. I know I can find range maps in other places, but I LOVE having maps with the text in this type of book. Even without maps, and having only made it through the first ~65 pages so far, this book is easily my number one sparrow reference, easily surpassing Rising.

This is, in my opinion, an important book that takes the reader deep into Iranian culture and history in relation to women's rights, shining a revealing light on the struggle by brave women (vieled or not) to gain equal rights.Reading this book, I learned s great deal about the Islamic Revolution and I gained new respect for both sides in this struggle: whether women in Iran wear the chador or not, they want to remove the gender bias from Sharia laws so that Islamic culture can benefit from the gifts and talents of both men and women.This book was a joy to read. I highly recommend it.

Grace is the word that comes to mind, when I think of my experience of reading the Jewels of Allah! This is an elegantly written book for every woman and every man to read! Dr. Nina Ansary is a brilliant author of a rare "jewel", on history of amazing Iranian women that has never been revealed before! Dr. Ansary is a catalyst whose tremendous research has created a masterpiece, greatly documented, brave work that must be a part of high school and university curriculum everywhere.Her boundless generosity:100% of the proceeds of this book is donated to charities supporting women in Iran.

Well written but not so academic that a "lay person" gets lost in the language of academia. Even a non scholar can follow the author. I enjoyed reading Jewels of Allah from start to finish.

Amazing book.

I am not a professional at anything. My opinion comes from my heart. I pray Dr. Ansary has many more books to write. I believe we need to have more of the kind of work she has done in Jewels of Allah. I had to take my time reading so as to take in every aspect of the women of Iran and the triumphs of their spirit. God Bless you Dr. Ansary. I pray your voice is heard for many years. Thank you also for the gift of my autographed book.

Well written easy reading and informative still reading when my family hasn't borrowed to read and look through. I'm very much enjoying this book & it's well worth having. I think it would be a good book in school libraries for its historical content.

Excellent analysis of Irani modern history.

I found her book compelling. She writes to educate those uninformed of the magnitude of problem in a society we judge yet know nothing about. I realize as a writer about the same subject I may be prejudiced. For those interesting in learning this is a good book.

The "Graphic Revolve" adaptations of myths and classic literature in graphic novel format are great for 2nd-3rd graders. The books include "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Each book devotes about 60 pages to the story, and includes a glossary and reading/writing questions. The books were originally published in 2007-2011 and republished in 2014 with new covers having the titles in all caps and slanting diagonally upwards.The text of the Graphic Revolve "Robin Hood" book (e.g., 2014 paperback,2014 library binding, or 2009 paperback), by Aaron Shepard and Anne L. Watson, is as well-written as the text of other books in the series. We read about Robin's meeting Little John, Friar Tuck, and others; tricking the Bishop of Hereford and the Sheriff of Nottingham; and winning an archery contest. For the intended audience, the words couldn't be better.The only problem with the "Robin Hood" book are the illustrations by Jennifer Tanner. The lines are noticeably pixelated (e.g., see page 5 in the preview of the Kindle edition). The colors chosen are distracting; for example, King Richard's hair is a bright, unnatural orange. A half-dozen panels show people standing around without doing or saying anything that advances the plot, for example, on pages 31 and 33 depicting scenes from Eleanor and Alan-a-Dale's wedding. Graphic Revolve books such as "Perseus and Medusa" (illustrated by Daniel Perez) and "The Adventures of Hercules" (illustrated by Jose Alfonso Ocampo Ruiz) have much better artwork. Overall, four stars.
