Review
"So many people in the U.S. and the West in general assume that all religions teach essentially the same thing, and that their message is one of benevolence, charity, and magnanimity. While that may be true for many religions, it is certainly not true of Islam, especially in regard to women, unbelievers, and other despised groups. In this eye-opening book, Nonie Darwish lays bare the shocking details of just how sharply Christian morality and Islamic morality differ. Politicians and policymakers in favor of mass Muslim immigration, and clerics who think that 'dialogue' with Muslim leaders will fix everything, should study this book carefully and heed its lessons."--Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch and author of the New York Times bestsellers The Politically Incorrect Guide(R) to Islam(and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad "Every serious student of truth needs this excellent book. Nonie Darwish's deep understanding of the Islam of her upbringing contrasts sharply with the truths she has learned through embracing Christianity. As a former Muslim convert to Christianity, she is in a unique position to present the reader with the crucial background information on the struggle gripping the modern world. Every Christian will benefit immensely from the profound information Nonie Darwish has gathered through firsthand experience and painstaking research. And open-minded non-Christians will learn valuable facts about both Christianity and Islam. Wholly Different is a book that people of all faiths should read."--James Tolle, pastor of El Camino Metro Church, the largest Hispanic church in Los Angeles "Wholly Different is a moving and fascinating experience of Darwish's discovery of Biblical values. This precious account of a courageous woman confronting the trauma of discovering and revising her past life's dilemmas in total conflict with Western values describes her final liberation from the past into values of truth and love. A most enlightening and well-analyzed book that should be widely read."--Bat Ye'or, author of Eurabia, The Dhimmi, and Islam and Dhimmitude

This is one of the best books on islam and christianity, and I have read a lot of them. The reason it stands out is that it's a personal journey written by a former muslim, and yet very calm, understanding and yet analytical. Most of the critical books on islam just keep repeating the same things, but this book was different. And better still: this is a book that you, without offending anyone, could give to some of your "liberal" apologetic friends who keep on defending islam all the time, and they would not think of it as an aggressive provocation, but rather as a soft eye-opener. Nonie's voice is very autentic and "loving" so even when she speaks about all the problems with islam, you never get the feeling that she looks down on muslims as persons, she just wants to reflect over the doctrines, the denials, the anger and all the psycholical problems that come with islam. Thank you, Nonie Darwish!
An excellent book and a must read for anyone wanting to know the truth on Islam. Nonie answers the broad question of Why. Why Islamic values are different from western Judeo-Christian values. Why followers of Islam are prisoners of their own ideology. Why they hate us. Why there has not been any reformation in Islam away from the violence and oppression. And on and on. One of those books you want to keep reading until you are finished.
Muslims constantly claim that they want to have dialogues about their faith and clear up the misconceptions, that this only when the participants are clueless. Nonie Darwish joins the discussion of Christianity vs. Islam with a lot of credibility, having lived the first 30 years of her life as a Muslim before becoming a Christian about 17 years ago. She has identified over 50 stark differences between the two ideologies -- faith vs. submission, trust vs. distrust, self-control vs. controlling others, etc. Needless to say, Christianity comes out on top. This is an objective, well-documented discussion, and it is not a churchy testimony. Too often, defenders of Islam are short on quotations from the sacred texts and long on "alternate facts." Not so with Ms. Darwish. Two issues get special attention in her book: The Western feminists' failure to recognize the wretched misogyny facing half the Muslim world and the Muslims' effective use of Muslims-as-victims myth to gain sympathy in the West. Islam will continue to inch its way into our culture as long as there is rebellion against Biblical values and as long as there are opinion leaders who naively assume that all religions and cultures are basically the same.
Even for those who've read the books of the Islamic canon or other books about Islam, Nonie's new book, "Wholly Different: Why I Chose Biblical Values Over Islamic Values," will expand your understanding of what it means to live under shariah vs. what it means to live under the Judeo-Christian principles of the U.S. Constitution. Nonie writes in such a clear style - but it is the vivid recounting of her personal life experience that really touches the reader. Nonie's explanation of how a shariah system wreaks havoc with the human psyche and how badly women, especially, are treated under an enforced system of Islamic Law will both inform and shock. Read this book and then share it with family, friends, and faith communities!--Clare M. Lopez, Vice President for Research & Analysis at the Center for Security Policy
I saw Noni Darwish on TV, and bought her book here on Amazon. Her book was so compelling that I read it twice in 3 days, with highlights and underlines on almost every page. Darwish was born in Egypt and so was a Muslim by birth, not choice. Your official religion is marked on your birth certificate in Muslim nations. If you decide to leave Islam, that you never chose, you are an apostate and may be killed by any Muslim. She left Egypt for the USA at age 30 and has spent more than half her life here. Along the way she converted to Christianity, so she has unique insights into both faiths. It's the most important book on Islam and the war of civilizations that I've ever read, and I have read many. I cannot recommend it enough. I plan to buy a case of these books and give them to all of my family and friends. Thank you Noni Darwish for writing a book that only a woman born as a Muslim in a Muslim nation could ever write.
Includes a devastating critique of western feminism that holds Christian men to an absurd standard while turning a blind eye to horrific oppression and sickening crimes against women and young girls when they are committed by Muslim men.
This wonderful book was a birthday gift to my off the grid friend who wrote to thank me: "Nonie Darwish is a treasure. She writes with such clarity making the complexity of Islam easier to recieve and to understand. Though I have read quite a lot on Islam, and on the Middle East, but not until Ms. Darwish was I able to fully comprehend the threat of Islam and what it is all about. "Wholly Different" literally changed my life. It definitely made me re examine my relationship to the Christianity in which I was raised.Thank you Nonie! Pamela Jane Riviere
I have heard the Islam is a religion of peace. I have also noted that most of the war and turmoil in the world is focused in these same countries. It has also been reported that women are second class citizens in this culture and that honor killings are legal. If you judge the validity of words by their fruits then this is a big disconnect. This book does a good job of providing insight into why this is true. It also provides insight into why so many are apologists for Islam in the face of actions that they would condemn anyone else for. The fact that she lived 30 years in this culture adds even more validity to her points
